“Live honestly, hurt nobody, and render to everyone his due.” –

Justinian, Roman lawgiver, quoted in “Advanced Course In

Yogi Philosophy” by Yogi Ramacharaka.

These are simple words conveying a great message about the

conduct of life. Unless you are a philosopher, it is not worth

arguing about the interpretations of the words honesty, non-hurting

and everyone’s due. We have a common sense understanding

of their meanings, and how to apply them in our life for the

benefit of all people.

This message can be summed up in “Truthful Living.” Truth resides

in all of us and needs only to be made manifest. But to do so we

need to have a clear understanding of how truth is in us. Satguru

Kabir said, “सच बराबर तप नहीं, झूठ बराबर पाप,

जाके ह्रदय सचहै, ताके हृदय आप.” There is no austerity greater than

truth, and no evil greater than lies. The heart in which truth dwells,

there you will find God.

There is a quotation, “God is truth and truth is God.” So if God

motivates you to live truthfully, then you are living according to

the message first mentioned above. Let us all heed this message

and make our lives noble!
